For VST operation, you also must consider the host's CPU load.Storm requires a VST host that supports multiple audio outputs.(currently only Steinberg's Cubase does so.) I testedStorm 1.5 for this review, but version 1.51, which containsseveral enhancements and bug fixes, should be out by press time.

It appears that the entire Storm app can be loaded as a VST plugin ?!  Not That is supports VST plugins as a Host, but that it runs as a plugin in a VST compatible Host...

Arturia Storm installs from a cross-platform CD-ROM and requires run-time Java, which is supplied for the Mac and PC. (Allaudio processing is programmed in assembly language for optimal performance.)

And yes Mactron was right it is all Java runtime based...

MIDI is handled on the PC by DirectX and on the Mac byOpen Music System

Arturia Storm requires challenge-and-response authorization andautomatically takes care of that the first time you launch it if yourcomputer is online. Otherwise, Arturia Storm generates aprintout that you can mail, fax, or e-mail to Arturia for the responsecode. (Storm runs 20 times without authorization.) I had noproblems with automatic online authorization.

This could be our downfall... I hate challenge response... and for this cheap POS... what were they thinking.  Well, maybe Storm 2.0 did away with challenge response (like Cubase and other apps that moved away form it). At anyrate we have to find out if they are still genning response codes before we buy it.

diehard: i just did a qucik search and saw keygens posted for pretty mch all versions 2,3,4
etc

i dont thint the app itself loads as a vst but rather like II0 said theres a vst plugin that acts as a bridge
to port the audio into cubase or logic.. or maybe u are right im not sure what or who u are quoting here
maybe the sos article?

not exactly loaded, but you could say "used like one". you send midi to the app, and it sends audio back to the VST plug-in.

(in case your host app does not support VST 2.1 for effects you can still use OMS)

like i said above, it is just like using tokyo.

the same argument could be said of reason... or 90% of all plugins..
but people can still make music with it that would make u be shocked to know what it was made with
i have friends who have produced entire albums on reason that people constantly suspect being made with  real analog gear
so this largely depends on 'who is behind the steering wheel'
and what type of music they are making

hardware configuration required to use Storm on Macintosh:

Too bad Macintosh Repository has too many restrictions. Slow downloads, can't download files bigger than 300mb without an account.
Someone should upload this to Macintosh Garden instead
