DIEHARD also says theres a drive by Imation called LS120 Superdisk, that connects via IDE 40 pin connection (not floppy 30 pin ribbon connection)
and lets u use 1.44mb floppies aswell as 120mb "superdisks"



diehards graciously offered to test this.. as he has some of these drives..
i am Patiently waiting for diehard to test to see if these drives work with macs... i hope he can do this asap

apparently distributed by the publishers of this "indesign bible" so i assume its all tested/working

i think this page is suggesting that u can share the physical drive from a pc and access it from a mac over the network?

Best Tool for a Mac Minority

The Mac-based Dave uses the Mac's native TCP/IP and adds Windows' NetBIOS protocol to give the Mac the appropriate networking protocols to connect to a Windows 3.1, 95, or NT PC. Many Mac users will appreciate that Dave doesn't require any software installation on the PCs, so you can connect your Macs without the help of your IS staff.

But don't get too independent: configuring Dave requires details about the Windows networking configuration on the PCs you're working with. You'll likely need a PC pro's help. For those not comfortable with nitty-gritty networking, PC MacLAN is far easier to set up.

Dave's only significant design drawback is that it relies on PC Exchange's extension mapping to display icons of files across the network--this is unfortunate if you're using DOS Mounter 95, which we recommend over PC Exchange.

Dave also suffers from a limitation of the Mac OS's networking implementation: you can have only one active TCP/IP connection. If you are using Dave to connect to a PC and want to dial in to an Internet service provider, you'll have to disconnect from the network, change your TCP/IP control panel's configuration to a dial-up connection, restart your Mac, and then dial the Internet connection. Apple has said for several years that it will fix this problem but still hasn't done so.

Once you have Dave up and running, PC users will see Macs and Mac printers through the standard Windows Network Neighborhood interface and Macintosh users will see PC volumes through the Chooser.

yes but will the mac read the mac disk while being inside a pc.. ?
as u know, the pc says the floppy is not formatted + prompts u to delete it..
do you have experience with this?

It won't. The PC must see the drive in order to make a share of it. You just make a regular share in Windows, and DAVE can connect to it in Mac OS.

So you do have to have a disk that the PC can see and read from. So no HFS formatted Mac floppy will work.

Just buy a USB floppy drive and all is fixed. It's what I would do if I didn't have my Quadra 800 with a working floppy drive.

apparently a tool that can create .img files from mac formatted floppies, in DOS !!!!!!!!!!

according to miketomtom:

To copy Mac floppies to ".img" on a PC, the command is:

To write a .img file back to floppy the command is:

unfortunately i just tested it in ms-dos 6.22 and it is incompatible..
"This program cannot be run in DOS mode"

also incompatible with windows 3.11
when i click it in win311 the screen goes black and then returns as if i hadnt clicked it at all, does nothing.

-Mac-ette. a dos based app that reads mac disks and allows you to select which files u want to copy .. copies via "data-fork mode"? i assume that these files will be missing a resource-fork tho.. but it works!!!!

-rawrite.. To make an image file from a Mac floppy the syntax is: rawrite2 a: c:\name.img Moving the .img file to a Mac, use the Creator Changer to set the Creator & File types to Disk Copy's Read/Write types: "Creator Type: ddsk and File Type: dimg". From there, either lock the image before mounting or use Disk Copy 6 to convert the image to a safer Read Only or Disk Copy 4.2 format.

-WinImage.. available in many diff builds for diff os'es.. im using the 16bit version for win3.11 and its working like a charm, simply pop in a disk and under the file menu select Disk, and "read disk" and it creates a .ima file (or .imz compressed) from the disk which, apparently can be copied to mac and with the addition of the creator codes, opened with our beloved disk copy!!!!!! the extracted image is saved into a directory that can be set in the options preferences pulldown menu, but u have to manually select to save to a file after the disk contents are read into memory, using file save as dialog <--- this seems like the winning solution to me!!!  and alot more *Available* then macopener v2 or v3 (which i can only find on ftps i cant access or ebay auctions i dont really want to buy!)
