Gigabit Ethernet on a Powermac Digital Audio 533
« on: October 27, 2014, 02:33:32 PM »
Hi guys I have my old Powermac Digital Audio 533 up and running with macos 9.2.2.

According to specifications it should have a gigabit ethernet, but I'm only getting it to use 100 megabit.

This machine: http://support.apple.com/kb/sp113
http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powermac_g4/specs/powermac_g4_533.html

Any suggestions on what I can do to speed up the network. It's connected to a brand new airport extreme router.

look if your cable is cat 5e or cat 6 and has "100MHz" written on it. cat5 or lower dont do gigabit (though there is some cofusion about cables which are called 5 but are 5e in reality. if you want to be sure, use 5e.)

Thanks it's a cat 5 max 200 MHz so the problem is probably the cable :) I'll try to get a better cable tomorrow.
