The MDD (FW400) has an install DVD called Powermac G4 and comes with
system 10.2.6 and the general install of OS9 (ROM 10.2.1)

The MDD (FW800) has a similar DVD called Powermac G4 and comes with
system 10.2.4 and the classic install of OS9 (ROM 9.7.1) I think. I'll check
- yes it is.

it makes no sense that a fw800 model has a rom with a lower version then a
fw400 model..  unless the 'fw400' model u are speaking of is actually the 2003 1.25ghz mdd
this is the only mac that was released after the fw800.. being released June 23, 2003, 6 months
after the fw800 models, which were released January 28, 2003
http://www.oldschooldaw.com/forums/index.php?topic=389.0

so is this 10.2.1 rom, from the discs that came with the 2003 mdd? it must be?
but yet.. ive never seen anyone post this disc.. ever. anywhere

does anyone here have the restore/install disc for the 1.25 2003 mdd??????????
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2714459?tstart=0
this thread seems to be about finding these discs

This came with my dual MDD FW400 in May 2003.

The two disks photos are attached, the name of the
jpegs are the computers they came with.

I have tried copying and using a copy but it has never
worked.

from disk utility to toast, even cd-copy with the toast dvd extension and
many more apps but nothing has worked successfully for me, maybe
someone else may have been successful.

that really sucks because id really like to get a copy of either one of those discs...
preferably the 10.2.6 /w aht 2.0.2

i wonder why it came with both 10.2.4 + 10.2.6

after restoring from these discs.. is the mac os rom 10.2.1?

As I said each DVD install is for a different computer.
the 10.2.4 is for a MDD FW800 and the 10.2.6 is for
a MDD FW400 - two different computers.

The jpegs are named with the model computer it came for.
I will place here what I had previously explained to answer your
last question.

The first MDD series (FW400) comes with Mac OS 9.2.2 (ROM 9.7.1), about the second MDD series (FW800) I have no idea...  The third MDD series (2003) (FW400) comes with Mac OS 9.2.2 (ROM 10.2.1)

that really sucks because id really like to get a copy of either one of those discs...

It will always ask for the disks mentioned with the
marks on the right side of the disk(2 circles) - if it
is a copy of the DVD it seems not to have these marks,
don't know how or why?

i have been in contact with adam from oakbog.com and he says he has the discs and will make a copy for me. Thanks for telling me which version to look for.
I still have no idea how u could not be able to copy a dvd properly.. but then again.. when u tried to upload the some other discs they also didnt work.. so perhaps
theres some error you are making repeatedly..... seems strange.

maybe this has something to do with the "regional" copyright stuff that i posted about earlier.. using american media in Australia? i dont understand how all of that works
and i wasnt aware of it before.. but maybe thats the reason why..

i have asked him to confirm whether or not hes able to copy the disc + confirm that the copied disc works.. so i will post more once i hear back from him i guess

Not at all. This is only applicable on DVD "commercial movie" format.

In my opinion, the Jakl system problems nothing has to do with the Mac Os Rom version ...

Because is irrelevant for me. Only Mac OS ROM 2.5.1 (for 8.6) and 10.2.1 (for 9.2) are important.

ive just restored + confirmed that the dvd for my mdd 2003 1.25ghz comes with mac os rom 10.1.1
(dvd contained 10.2.6 + mac os 9.2.2, same dvd that Jakl claimed he could not copy... ;D )

jakl claimed this disc installed 10.2.1 rom, but that is not what i got after installing i have 10.1.1 rom.
not sure if he has a slightly updated disc, or if he made a mistake? was 10.2.6 the final jaguar update?
nope...

i suppose its possible that they updated from mac os rom 10.1.1 to 10.2.1 sometime during may-september 2003, or perhaps the disc jakl has, if it indeed has 10.2.1, came out after september, and they just didnt bother to update the version of os x on the updated disc?

Chris, I don't know what disk set you acquired, but Jakl did not make a mistake; remember, The "OS9 Fresh drag install" I created was from an initial install of the Set that came with the MDD 2003 and the ROM version is definitely 10.2.1.  I have about 15 original disk sets that came straight from the box (all from 2003 MDD Single 1.25) and they all match exactly and extract a ROM version 10.2.1.

OS 9.2.2 and Mac OS X 10.3.2

I will look at my Sets for 2003 MDD tomorrow... but here I think they match this (even Though they are Single CPU Models)
Quote
My MDD DP 1.25 2003 shipped new with 10.3.2 on it. AHT version 2.0.2. Is this the part number, 691-4872-A? That's the only thing on it that looks like a part number. The second disk has 2Z691-4873-A on it.

This thread explains some differences in the sets that shipped with the MDD 2003, but they are baffled also

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2714459?tstart=0

Lastly, this list (although obviously never updated) indicates that your set originally shipped with 2002 MDDs, but your disk has "2003" printed on it, So I can only guess they reprinted the 2002 set in early 2003 and then later replaced it with a newer set (9.2.2 and 10.3.2) in later 2003

i was given a disc image from adam rosen from oakbog technology (http://www.vintagemacmuseum.com/)
its a 3gb dvd that is bootable + installable, it installs jaguar 10.2.6

theres a link to us on his page: http://vintagemacmuseum.com/resources/mac-software/

i can only guess that there was a few versions of the same 10.2.6 .. i guess the rom was updated sometime during 2003 from 10.1.1 to 10.2.1 and that the disc i have acquired is the former version

i just tried to verify if there were any other macs that came with 10.2.6
http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-sort/
10.2.6 isnt even listed on everymac.com's mac sort under "original mac os "

Chris the install CD/DVD's were all progressive installs depending on the
system available when the computers were released. Another method
for Apple to keep all new computers using the most current operating
system without any backward compatibility with lower system versions I guess.

Anyway the DVD that I received with my MDD in 2003 was the one in the photo
I put up in a previous post. It was  special order at the time - I acquired a MDD
with dual 1.25 instead of a single 1.25, so I am not sure whether the DVD I
received was a special order as well. I hope that settles the install DVD story.

Now for the reason behind this post - acquired a powerbook titanium 667mhz
a couple of days a go - installked the general install with macos ROM 10.2.1
and installed a few apps - to my surprise CD-Copy worked!! WEIRD. Anyway
back to the drawing board - more tests to do. May take a while busy till X-mas.
