On the 90`s an artist that records itself an album and publish was enough to start a career.
Today you also have to record your videos and publish on youtube...thru classilla 

It could be a nice addon to this place to have the software to edit video on OS9. Even if we have to boot OSX to convert AVCHD footage to RAW OS9 uncompressed video.

Mjpeg codec or mp4/divx/xvid with Avid Videoshop v3x or 4x and forget about FCP.
FCP Its painfull slow, even in some of my "High End G4s" (1.5/1.66/.2.0 Ghz!)

this is what my acard 4-ch ATA-133 RAID Adapter was for at that time

(picture shows different non-mac model but u get the point)
pci 64 is a must for this to achieve higher then 133mb/s!!

We can reach 720p on G4s. That is my bet.

A RAW MDD with the boot drive on DVD/CD channel  should make a Raid 0 adding the 2 drives of the ATA 66 and the 2 drives of the bigger (or was Ata100 and Ata133?)
4 drives x 66 Mb raid should do 720p using http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/conley-soft-raid

DV video is 25 MB/s with the DV codec.


720p in DV codec should not be bigger than 2x-4x given that 1280 is less than 2x720 and 720 is less than 2x480

One of my favorite features, the Voice Over tool, appears in the one new window in Final Cut Pro 3 - the Tool Bench - also used for the Video Scopes and QuickView features yet to be covered.
Voice Over allows you to play the Sequence and simultaneously record a matching voice over to RAM.  A documentary filmmaker's dream, Voice Over is RAM dependent but you can limit the duration to be recorded (and thus the RAM requirement) by setting an In and Out marker in the Sequence.
Voice Over is simple to use - set the input from the available inputs - and click on the record button.  Inputs can be from the RTMac card with a line level feed from a mixer which is what I use; USB microphones or microphone adapters ; multi-channel FireWire input, or at a pinch, the microphone of a DV Camcorder. As long as Final Cut Pro recognizes it as a valid QuickTime audio digitizer, you can use it for Voice Over
   


Voice Over gives visual (and optionally audible) lead in queues and a warning 15 seconds from the end of recording range.  Once recorded to RAM it is processed and saved to the drive and automatically added to free tracks in the Timeline. It just works, although I found I preferred the audible warnings off unless the microphone was removed from the headset used to monitor.
One less well known feature is that the Voice over tool actually captures a few seconds before the In point and a couple after the Out point - useful if your talent started a little early or won't stop at the end.
Use the shortcut keys to mute and/or solo tracks for easy comparison between multiple VO takes in combination with other (locked) audio tracks.

I have 2 of them. System profiler sees them as SCSI cards. So it shouldn`t be a trouble to use conleysoft only using them. Also the Sonnet sata card is seen as SCSI card.

No one has ever talked here about raid setups with DAWs. I know PT on OSX (and OS9 I guess) do not want raid volumes to record/playback
(66+66)+(66+100) from the mdd equalls 300.

No one talked here about external raids thru firewire. The system sees the RAID as a only drive but they are 2-4 under the hood.
