pci powermac "jumper block" overclock on B&W G3 + YIKES G4
« on: September 24, 2014, 06:11:16 AM »
all the pci powermacs have a jumper block that controls the multiplier of the cpu
easily accessible just by removing a warning sticker
for those of us who have one of these machines but cant find the powerlogix 1ghz ZIF that user "Dane D" has  :'(

but, is there any danger to trying this? can it damage the cpu?
i guess id be silly not to try it.. if there is no danger involved..
to go from 450mhz up to 500mhz... easily attainable? stable?

seems to be only one jumper to move to go from 450mhz to 500mhz!!!

i just checked my jumper block
it has 11 jumpers
not 4
????

this must be only for the first revision b&W's

ok wait.. i see now

they discuss only changing these 4 jumpers of the 11

LOL!

it appears to be working just the same... no loss of stability :D
easiest overclock in the history of all mac + pcs!

I really do think that classilla is running significantly faster...
before when i tried to load macintoshgarden it was brutally slow
now its not bad
maybe im imagining.. can 50MHz make a huge difference?

I could reach 500mhz with a 450mhz G3. I had to use additional cooling for gaming (Shadow Warrior would lock-up in E1L4), but it was rock stable proper cooled.

i think its fine with the case closed and the 120 fan blowin. but i was thinking i might add a fan directly to the cpu
it is totally running hotter then before. but i think its ok.. its not freezing from the cpu.. it seems pretty stable .. it hasnt given me any problems when im not trying to install 8.6 / 8.5.1 :D

I have already done that. I wish I could do that with the G4 because of its benefits over the G3 (Altivec and faster FPU).

Yes it can be done in a G4 also. But a few tiny resistors must be changed instead a few motherboard jumpers...

I also did that, but it wasn't stable. I tried with 2.7V, 2.6V, 2.5V and 2.4V but none were stable.
Edit: Are you talking about the Sawtooth and newer or the Yikes?
