Does anyone have any advice to give as to how to get Max/MSP set up and running for OS 9? I can't seem to make sense of how the authorization process is supposed to work. Do I need to buy a license first? Does the license apply to all versions of C74 Max or just 4? If it's just 4, how much would the license actually cost these days? The Max store only has 6 and 7. Do this mean I have to pay 400 or whatever to get a piece of Software released 12 years ago?

Sorry if i'm missing the obvious. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Max/PD are the main programs I make music in on the computer and it would be great to be able to get this running in OS9.

if you are registered for v4, v5, or v6, just request an additional OS9 license from @support.

to do so, you need to send them the challenge code by mail – it is no longer possible to generate v4 licenses using the little ilok file.

in case you are not registered you might want to read your PM.

Someone made a crack for Max/MSP 4.1 and Jitter as well (not 1.1.1. or 1.1.4 but.. 1.0).  It's hard to consider Max/MSP as an "audio plugin", maybe that's why nobody that has it reacted ;)

Anyways, yeah, you would just install m/m 4.1 and jitter 1.0 from their website and replace after with [k]ed apps.  I have both if needed. :)

Hi Guys! I'm new around here, sorry for resurrecting this thread!

I need to activate MaxMsp v4.1 on my G4 Powerbook running OS 9.

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks in advance!

additionally i have attached the 15mb or so file here to this post! (jitter is a seperate download so someone will have to find a link for jitter 1.0, this one only has v1.1.4 http://web.archive.org/web/20060206055230/http://www.cycling74.com/downloads/jitter) but it was originally released at version 1.0 b cycling 74 themselves with a hefty price tag of 850$

Cycling '74 has released Jitter 1.0, a set of video, matrix, and 3D graphics objects for the Max graphical programming environment. Jitter, which provides modularity in graphics processing applications, includes "over 130 new objects for describing and manipulating matrix data -- any data that can be expressed in rows and columns, such as video and still images OpenGL-based 3D geometries, text, spreadsheet data, particle systems, voxels, or audio." It includes support for QuickTime, a set of OpenGL objects, DV camera control (as well as input and output via FireWire), and provides multiple monitor support. Upgrades are $400, while a bundle with Max, MSP, and Jitter is available for $850.

Jitter 1.0 requirements:

A PowerPC MacOS computer with OS 9.x.
At least 64 MB of RAM.
A G3/300 or higher with an OpenGL hardware-accelerated video card is recommended.
Max/MSP 4.0.9 or higher installed on your system (note that Jitter will work in demo mode with a demo installation of Max/MSP -- you may try both at the same time).
QuickTime 4.0 or later installed on your system.
OpenGL 1.2 or later installed on your system.
At present, Jitter (and Max/MSP) is only available for Macintosh OS 9.x systems -- a port of Max/MSP to OS X and the Windows operating system is in development, and Jitter will be released for these platforms following the OS X and Windows releases of Max/MSP.

I am not sure this Max Msp 4.1 is using ilok.  It has a challenge response dialog.

Ive tried the ilok reset scripts but they cant find HFSExtentTables and didn't restart the Max demo.

i dont know why that is. if you have some real ilok authorisations, that might cause problems.
there is a "registrationnumber" you have to copy from the startscreen first time you use it. then choose "zap authorizations".

not 100%, but i dont think the link geforceg4 posted is relevant.
