for proper sleep functionality - say no to usb 2.0!!

its been discussed before
but just to put it up for people to read and remember

g4s.. always have an issue with waking from sleep with some pci cards installed
the most notorious of which is the usb2.0 pci card.. though compatible.. somehow
causes the system to not regain wakefullness after sleeping..
sleep is a great function.. for power efficiency.. i would love to be able to save money
by letting my machien sleep while i go out shopping without having to take the time to sleep it
myself.. having this be automatic..

but of course we need usb ports.. some more then others..
the pci card... for osx users is a must.. to get usb 2.0 speed
but for mac os 9 musician creative types.. do we need usb 2.0?
no.. we use firewire..

the simple solution is.. dont use a usb pci card.
buy a cheap powered hub.. have more then enough ports
+ power for all your devices..

just yank that pci usb 2.0 card out!!
and enjoy proper sleep functionality;)

thoughts/questions/topics for discussion:

a) has anyone got a usb 2.0 pci card that DOESNT interfere with sleep?
b) which is the best usb 1.1 or usb 2.0 powered hub design for us users as os9 musicians?
c) which is the best usb 1.1 or usb 2.0 mod for adding ports to the front of our g4s?
d) will a powered hub interfere with sleep aswell?
e) obviously usb 3.0 is not needed for us.. but would it be 100% compatible downgrading these blue/usb3 ports to 1.1 in mac os 9?
f) what other items have you noticed also can cause problems with sleep?

Yes I had one...
But I don't know where it is now a days...

All USB hubs I have tried worked well.

In my experience, the USB 1.1 or 2.0 PCI cards and Hubs are not problematic with deep sleep.
Unless some device connected to them which can cause problems ...

BTW: I have this HUB but the white model note the power switches.

it would be great if we could get some feedback about any specific usb 2.0 card that allows for sleep mode to function properly

Sorry for bumping such an old thread, has anyone found a USB 1.0/2.0 PCI card that doesn't break deep sleep under Mac OS 9?

I have tried the following which are all compatible but break deep sleep functionality:
- Belkin 5 Port USB PCI (NEC D720101GJ)
- I/O Future 5 Port USB PCI (NEC D720101GJ)
- Generic 4 Port USB PCI (NEC D720100AGM)
- Generic 2 Port USB PCI (Opti 82c861)

I'm ready to move to a USB hub like this post suggests but was hoping there was something out there that is fully supported.
