steinberg VST SDK
« on: August 24, 2014, 07:17:54 PM »
I would like to suggest that it may be of value if we put some effort into gathering all the different Steinberg VST SDK's from the past i believe there are more than a few different versions to collect (of which i have zero as of my writing this, LOL hence my interest)

What's your part at Steinberg's ? Do you manage a project from start to end or do you have one or many specialities that you apply on every projects ? And what are the programs which bear your signature ?

Because of my scientific training, I handled the VST plug-in part (integration, evolution), the Audio processing one (DSP, Filter, EQ, convolution, automatic tempo detection and note pitch) and the Surround. At the beginning, we were 3 developers only on Nuendo, so we shared out between ourselves the tasks according to our preferences and our affinities. At the same time, I developed a library dealing with the graphic interface for VST plug-ins, crossable to MAC (OS9 et X), SGI (Silicon Graphic), SUN, BeOS and of course Windows. It allowed me to have some contact with the VST world including more than 300 developers all over the world, from TCWorks, Native, Waves, Universal Audio to students who were writing for their school projects or as a hobby. Then, I began to write some plug-ins too : NuendoEQ, SurroundPanner, Chopper, Tranceformer, Metalizer... Next, later, some greater projects with Karl (a.k.a Charly) Steinberg : LM4-MkII, The Grand, HALion, Plex, HALion String Player. Thus, as you can see, no time to get bored during those 5 last years... That's what I enjoyed immediately at Steinberg's, this possibility to work in different scopes, creative, very enrichable and very motivating.

So 3 developers only... We can also blame him the Nuendo OS9 buggy version.

We can blame Steinberg to force him having less time to finish Nuendo while working on SGI, SUN and BeOS...

Hero-AntiHero... Definitively he is part of the OS9 DAW story

SDK stands for Software Development Kit

we can only hope that some old programmers who were part of the VST-revolution wave circa 1999 will come back to doing some work for mac os 9! as a hobby..

Since May 2003 VSTGUI is open source
Cross platform C++ library for developping audio plugin´s UI
https://sourceforge.net/projects/vstgui/
https://github.com/steinbergmedia/vstgui
https://sourceforge.net/projects/vstgui/files/vstgui/
theres a mailing list here: https://sourceforge.net/p/vstgui/mailman/message/2113034/

another one of the programers behind VSTGUI was a guy named Arne Scheffler
http://web.archive.org/web/20040319012803/http://arne.knup.de/plog/

also the ASIO SDK was found + posted about here also
but noone noticed or commented?
http://comp.ist.utl.pt/ec-ra/Laboratorio/ASIO%20SDK%202.pdf
Audio Streaming Input Output Software Development Kit

BOTH the originators of the VSTGUI package Arne + Ygrabit are
active on this forum : https://sdk.steinberg.net/
216 total members on this forum
if anyone is serious about producing their own vst plugin for mac os 9 these guys would be able to help ALOT! if they turned out to be cool guys willing to share some info

its a shame all the programmers here on macos9lives are focused on non-audio related tasks !!!

I don't agree. It isn't a shame. They are doing what's most important for the whole platform, after deep discussion about that. Fortunately we have more audio tools than we can use in our whole life.

Opinions -from experienced users- are the main point in forums like this. Otherwise the Internet would be a bunch of sales brochures links, hiding all the data that could damage the product sales.

Any way, what I'm saying isn't an opinion but what actually happened, As we have several polls and discussions about what developments will be more importants for the Mac Os 9 platform.
Furthermore, the developers in this forum do what they can or what they want, as any other member.
... Accordingly with the forum rules and goals, of course .
