Running VSTs in Pro Tools via Multivst Shell
« on: November 09, 2013, 02:28:42 AM »
the following information is related to running VST plugins inside of PRO TOOLS LE 5+ ON OS9

ive just been reading (this article: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/mar03/articles/pronotes0303.asp)
that its possible to run VSTs inside pro tools LE 5 using this software.... using this pluggo technology and something
called the multivst shell (http://www.studiotoolz.net/multivst-shell) trying to locate this, brings me to this page -> http://www.studiotoolz.net/multivst-shell which then lead me to this page -> http://www.wildfrontear.co.uk/
not sure if this was the original developer? seems so..

Pluggo 3.0.4 Compatibility Information
For MAS host applications, MOTU Audio System 2.1 and
FreeMIDI 1.42 or later are required. These are not included with the Pluggo installer.
For RTAS, you must use Pro Tools 5.1 or later (pluggo does not officially support Pro Tools Free, but they may still work together.)
    - Cubase 4.1 or later
    - Digital Performer 2.5 or later (2.7 or later strongly recommended)
    - Vision 4.1 or later (version 4.5 automation does not work with Pluggo)
    - Logic Audio 4.1.2 or later
    - Peak 2.5 or later
    - Live 1.1 or later
    - Spark 1.1
pluggo does not work when multiprocessing is enabled in host applications with support for it. However, you can disable the multiprocessor support in the host application and use pluggo when the application is in single processor mode.

this pluggo v3.0.4 runtime can be downloaded from the above address!!!!! ^^^^^^

MultiVST Shell is a four-part multitimbral version of the above, with a number of other improvements, such as assignable midi input and audio output and a 4 way matrix of VST plug-ins.

reading further in the soundonsound article i find the link to download the vsti shell to be as follows:
http://www.wildfrontear.co.uk/standalones.html and amazingly enough THIS LINK
for the multishell vsti IS STILL VALID! and so is the download link for the app which is as follows:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
also as per the article,
the ugly vsti interface can also be used to use a single vsti in pro tools 5 via directconnect

Features

Version b0.4.1 updated to fix hanging on launch
Version b0.4 updated to fix ReWire output
Loads both CFM and Mach-O VSTi's
Now with drag-and-drop plug-in and patch loading
    Ugly new color scheme!

Our host application for VSTi plug-ins. It loads one VSTi at a time, and no effects, but it

Im not having much luck with these VST enabling solutions for pro tools 5 under os9......

the vsti's i try to load into this multishell vst (+ i also tried the single vsti shell app which has 1 slot instead of 4)
but they just seem to crash the app and oms + make me do a hard reboot....

im not sure if its because im using FM7 for testing, and its already got some type of directConnect built into it..
which would be why its screwing up.... something is clearly wrong...... not sure how to debug + test further..

the same vsti's load effortlessly into a steinberg app such as cubase or nuendo..
im wondering if its some type of directconnect / midi related feedback loop thats happening somehow resulting in the app
crashing, i mean it must work, if it was written up in soundonsound mag... not that i have a huge respect for this mag
it just seems to be the only preserved documented source of information dating back this far (which is crazy really because
it wasnt THAT long ago.. and already most links + websites are broken which are relating to anything os9)

It is not sad. It is called SUMMER. Most musicians work on summer. I can not add or reply to things that I do not know and/or can not test.  Soon I will test vst on protools with yours great tutorials. Thanks for your efforts.
Looking for MacOS 9.2.4

it still boggles my mind that this thread of all threads has been ignored!!!
how can we not have any pro tools users that are interested in running VST instruments inside of pro tools???
we have people logging in and talking about using pluggo inside pro tools more then we have people interested in trying either of these methods
i keep responding on the thread because im trying to attract attention to this possibility

i anxiously await someone testing these out..
the same goes for MAS plugin VST wrapper for Digital performer..
these are important things to verify + confirm
i suppose i will have to do it myself

of course i even made this other thread with more illustraitons

what, you can not test mach-o VSTs in OS9? so you are refusing to follow his commands? :P

110..
that info was copied from
http://www.refusesoftware.com/ugly re: Supported Systems
he was referring to the fact that he had updated this software version for mac os x/intel
he meant the new mac os x version supports mach-o
and the mac os 9 version was updated to support carbon cfm

if u clearly understood this...you should have explained this clearly for people unlike yourself
who do not understand what it is that you mean, but too bad this is not your goal
you are more interested in highlighting how stupid i am right?:)
