Conversion, different ways to...
« on: July 24, 2014, 07:57:43 AM »
do you guys have any preferred conversion routines?

for example ive done a lot of field recordings on my Edirol R-09HR (its what ive got) at 24bit/96 kHz, and of course .wav!
so converting these to .aif or .sd2 for import in Cubase or PT i use the Batch converter in Spark 2.5.

if i want to copy a commercial CD, i use Soundapp since its 16bit anyway. but Soundapp has many different algorithms and i dont know the difference between them. maybe Sparks conversion is better? Peak has a Batch converter but its a hassle. talking to 110 he said Barbabatch or QuickTime movieplayer are superior choices.

is this one of those issues where all experts have different opinions?  :) :D

I just use the built in converter in Pro Tools. Use Logic for MIDI and VST, so I have never had to use audio inside of it.

I've run into a little trouble myself. Some of the older DAWs only use AIFF or SD2 files and won't take wavs or mp3s. Is there a good strict audio converter app?

personally i hate this app, but for batch unencoding mp3s i would suggest itunes. i dont know offhand, if any, then spark could be the only "pro" app which will do it in a bearable manner.

hes not talking about mp3s hes talking about sound files hes recorded with a portable recorder
i would assume hes also talking about samplecds in general in addition to his own recorded "samples"

what about audacity? although the legacy mac version may not support the batch processing feature
