MOTU PCI cards 324, 424 and X424
« on: June 16, 2014, 09:05:19 AM »
There's a PCI-324, a PCI-424, and a PCI-X424. The PCI-E424 won't work in a G4 as far as I know so that leaves the former three.

This is taken from MOTU's site:

Quote
PCI slots with a 3.3 volt power specification cannot support 5 volt PCI cards such as the original PCI-424. Additionally, the original 424 card will not physically fit into the PCI-X slots found on many new motherboards nor will it fit into any PowerMac G5 or Mac Pro

So which ones are compatible?

There's a PCIX-424X version though. Does that work too?

the pci-x 424 is the most compatible card
working in all of the above systems frm 1997-2014 powermac g3s, g4s, g5s hackintosh or windows pcs  (provided they have a pci slot)
i own the pcix-424 and currently have it installed in a hackintosh q6600 /w 16gb ram but like i said its also g3/g4/g5 compatible and can be switched from my hackintosh to any of my macs...  making it one of the best buys going.. if you arent interested in pro tools and have an interest in using intel pc hardware aswell as macs (the 324 card requires 5v pci slot so doesnt work in g5 but should be fine to go in a g3 or a g4)

its pretty insane just how compatible it is..

I don't really understand the difference between PCI and PCI-X but I guess it's to fit in with a revision of the PCI standard (voltage).

Those MOTU cards and interfaces are the sh*t. You can sync your whole studio with a Digital Timepiece interface. That's why i'm interested  -afro-

thats exactly right.. so u do understand;)
there is no difference whatsoever in quality or capability between pci 424 + pci-x 424
only that the card is now moving from 5v to 3.3v
furthermore the 324 should offer comparible performance to the 424 with the exception that
it lacks the cuemix mixer capabilities.. perhaps a difference in Khz samplerates aswell.

PCI-424 should be alot cheaper then the pci-x 424 too if not ur getting ripped (kind of)
and the pci-324 .. even more so...

if u arent concerned with powermac g5 compatibility(pci-x), or cuemix fx(424)
for a lowbie system a pci-324 should be a helluva deal for what u can do with it..
fe. a 324 + 3 1224s would be a sick lowbie setup!

one more thing about the 324 im pretty sure it will work in a pc in a hackintosh aswell!
and they are on ebay for starting bid of 30$!! which is insane when u think about it
