Sidechain any VST in any Cubase version. Another try...
« on: June 10, 2014, 01:24:34 PM »
To understand how to Sidechain a compressor or any other VST in cubase, we must first take a look to how a proper sidechain works. We take a vocal stream "stereo spoken words" and a music background audio stream for this example::

We see two stereo audio streams going into the compressor (4 channels in total)...

But this setup isn't possible in Cubase, were only a stereo stream can go into the compressor (2 channels in total).
So the "Trick" consist in to split the 2 stereo channels (4 channels in total) and rejoin it and send it to two compressors in a very peculiar way:

This is the key part. You should understand this picture, and try to go by yourself...

... because a lot of group sends has to be done to achieve this. I think that you must figure out by yourself on how to do this, if you look to the attached picture may think that is a real nightmare!

This example was done with the standard Cubase Dynamics compressor and this is how it sound:

I've tried this with the TC X3 compressor also, with "the same" result.

There is also TC Works Native Bundle 3.0 with a very easy to use sidechaining function.

http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=1182.0

But it seems that it don't work, unless it were updated to 3.1.

TC Works Native Bundle 3.1. Anybody?

oh right, the tc sidechainer. :) so i stand corrected; it is not waves exclusive.

when i think about it, i should have a pluggo for hosting 2 instances of L->R plug-ins in one stereo pluggo.

And I thought I did something wrong....I can confirm that the 3.0 version doesn't work.  :'(  I sincerely hoped it would be the simple sidechain solution for os9.  The search continues....

Any response yet? I've been searching the internet in it's darkest corners but I haven't found it yet.  ::) I also contacted TC; they don't have it available. Officially abandonware!

Would be a milestone if we get it though. The only simple side chain solution for OS9. It must be somewhere....I'll keep searching!

what would be so different with 3.1 compared to
the 3.0 + 2.0 versions posted already http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=1182.0

ask BT if he has it!
or get him to help try to network + track it down
thats what i say

priv msg "Sonikarchitects"

doesnt the logic compressor support sidechain? is there anyway to use it from other apps?
was it in vst format in earlier versions of logic and extractable to be used in cubase or ableton?

just thinking outloud;)

ask BT if he has it!

Good suggestion. I just asked him. Ofcourse there are other options; like Mactron explained. However the TC native 3.1 option is much more user friendly and speeds up production big time. Just a combination of a sidechain plugin and a linked compressor plugin.  ::)

I have it.
...but...
it is a very problematic .sit inside a .zip file!. Seems to decompress and install only on Os X, even though it clearly says in the Read Me that is for Mac Os 9...
I've attached it in the next post, if some of you can give it a try and to have better luck than me...

mactron i downloaded and looked at the archive with osx rar expander and that seems to be a setup.exe file for pc only
h20.nfo seems to be a pc only h20 release dated 12-12-2003 (win9x, win2k, winxp)
