Finally it's here:

Plugsound Free can be used to open most of the old version of the UVI engine based libraries (.dat format). May be some of the first Mach Five libraries even.

Just rename the (monolith) library file alias you want to open as "Plugsound Free.dat" and enjoy!

If you wish to do the same to several libraries there is a different procedure with a few more steps to do:

1- With Res Edit Rename the resource aEff as you wish.
2- With HexEdit find for "Plugsound Free" and replace with a different string but with the same charecters length.
3- Rename the (monolith) library file alias you want to open with the same string you have used in 2.

and enjoy!

... I'll wish to test this new trick with MSI.dat (Motu Synphonic Instrument) :)

¿?
This procedure is working and tested with most of the libraries... It doesn't matter where the .dat comes from if it is for UVI engine.

Can we make a list?

I used in 2002 I think the plugsound collection and it was awesome for that time!

They were 6 CDs

I guess the list will help to have "less" post about UVI engine plugs

For instant gratification, dive into Mach Five's factory sound selection. At well over 4GB, this is huge, and is supplied on a DVD so that you can get it into your computer. You'll forgive me if I don't go into the details of such a vast collection (although do check out the Bösendorfer piano, a collection 475MB in size), but I can confirm that plenty of bread-and-butter sounds are provided, with loads of loops, synths, and a General MIDI bank, plus a few bits and pieces from Ultimate Sound Bank. The factory set is characterised by lively sounds, excellent looping and the clever user of effects.
If nothing else, the supplied library gives you something to aspire to: you really hear the quality and fidelity of the UVI engine hidden behind Mach Five's front panel.

There is an utility called UVI-Xtract/MachFive http://www.soundonsound.com/forum/showflat.php?Number=233014

The UVI-Engine is a sample-playback audio instrument engine that works in nearly all plug-in formats.

Ultimate Sound!
Created by Ultimate Sound Bank and used in some of the leading instruments available today, the UVI-Engine comes from one very simple desire: absolute sound quality. None of the instruments using it today would have any value if they didn’t sound better than most samplers and sample playback modules ever made. We’re doing this by using a 32 bit floating point architecture throughout the signal path. The sound always comes first in the instruments that Ultimate Sound Bank is involved with.

Next: Flexibility
We believe that instruments are best put in a plug-in: standalone application mean too much computing and not enough music. It’s also much more reliable as you don’t need to synchronise applications or to use software adapters. And we don’t want to leave anybody out of the party, so we’ve released plug-ins that are compatible with:

Cubase, Logic Audio and other VST compatible sequencers on PC and Mac OS 9
Pro Tools (RTAS) on Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X
Digital Performer using the native MAS format on both mac OS 9 and Mac OS X
Logic 6 (and other future hosts) in Audio units format for Mac OS X

and we’re now introducing direct compatibility of Ultimate Sound Bank instruments with:

Native DXi for use with Sonar, Project 5 and many others hosts
RTAS PC for use on windows Pro Tools systems

Last but not least: Simplicity
Easy to use is a key feature for us, never forgotten in our design. Being a plug-in means that your settings will be saved when you save your sequence, for instance. We also try to have as many controls visible in the same window, and encourage our UVI-Engine partners to do this too.
